“Try and try until you succeed because failure is not in not succeeding, but it is in not trying!”
Can this saying be applied to discovering what could make us happy? Is discovery merely a trial and error?
It is in our human nature that we tend to yearn for more. Once we’ve achieved something that made us happy, there is this never-ending desire to seek for more! We keep on trying new things, based on what we heard, what we read, what we saw. People cannot find satisfaction and be happy with what they have because deep within it’s not really what they wanted.
Discovering happiness is trial and error. Trying many things means experiences gained. We can learn and discover our talents and capabilities.
What do I really want out of life? For me to have wisdom and smile on my last breath. To peacefully join the ONE who gave me this life.
The Maslow Hierarchy of Needs helps me realize my dreams, my purpose! I started with my physiological needs, onto love and security, then self-belonging, to self-esteem, and once done I reached self-actualization. Self-Actualization is the realization of my dream and purpose. I did one need at a time as instructed, like trial and error. I didn’t push myself too much nor skip a need or leap on the hierarchy.
I also believe with what The Alchemist said, “IF YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING THAT WAS MEANT FOR YOU, ALL THE UNIVERSE WILL CONSPIRE FOR YOU TO ACHIEVE IT.” In my struggles, I aimed high, but did not expect too much. I also learned to accept that I will fail at times, that not all things are meant for me. Is the strength of my will being tested?
How will we know that this dream is what was written in our hands, decided by the Divine Creator? There are certain forces we can feel that pushes us to discover it. Most of the time these forces cannot be discerned by us, maybe because we tend to lose hope, be unhappy, or are too focused on mindless things. Without analyzing things we keep asking ourselves, “why is life always like this?” We continue to pray for things not meant for us, we keep on failing and tend to blame people around us. What’s worse, we question God. Why He doesn’t hear us, does He not love us, or want us to be happy? We do not realize that is not our real purpose in life.
Let us try to look into this song “The Impossible Dream..." Does it contradict with dreaming something attainable? It’s a yes and a no. This depends on the person’s realization of what really makes them happy, discovering the mere purpose of their existence. A direction leading to a life of perfection – nothing is perfect in this world, only God is perfect. Thus, a life of perfection is a life with God.
We can do anything we want as long as we do it on our own free will. Freedom to do things. Freedom in its true sense - doing things you wish to do that will not negatively affect the people around you. Such purpose will be served while the universe is conspiring with you. Always think of the right thing to do, although the right choice may not always mean happiness. Funny as it may seem, it’s true.
Let us do our best to follow these two meaningful commandments, "Love God above all, and love thy neighbors." If we can follow these two, we can stick to all other laws of God and Man. From this, you can be freed of guilt, remorse, hatred, even depression. Freed from all negative forces that can hinder you from achieving your dreams and fail to feel the force of the universe within you.
How will you know that the universe is at work? While you are still on your struggle to achieve your dream, tests and trials will come along your way. This is why I used the word struggle, because you will be traveling a rough road. Give meaning to barriers, it’s either you change direction or go with the flow. As long as you are leading yourself to the right destination, making the right and proper choices. We might feel hopeless, almost to the point of giving up, but still fighting for life.
Sooner or later the message will be right in front of you, like flash of lightning that will give light to your almost fading hopes. At the end of your struggle you will discover that happiness was there with you all along right where you have started.
